‘Alike-Aurier’ – Spurs’ target gets caught out just like Aurier

Atalanta has scored the most number of goals in Serie A. However, it is the Belgian right-back who is the transfer target of a few big clubs

José Mourinho needs the 24-year-old defender in the summer transfer window to revamp his defence at Tottenham Hotspur. Aurier has failed to impress the gaffer and it looks like he needs Castagne to shore up his defence.

Already team-mates for Belgium and competitions for the right-back place, Meunier is expected to leave the Parc des Princes if his contract expires. Actually, Spurs have also been connected with the PSG right-back.

Spurs’ requirement to get a right-back is made from a chronic mismanagement of this place in the past several years. Consequently, Mourinho is searching for an upgrade on the right side of his defence.

Most children grow up idolising or trying to emulate their parents and Castagne was not any different. His father, Pierre, was an expert who twice finished top scorer at Luxembourg in the 90s.

He started out with Genk, creating his Belgian Pro League debut in September 2014 from Club Brugge at a 1-1 draw. On the opposite side? It was Meunier.

In the next 3 seasons, Castagne established himself as a regular, with the Blauw-Wit, who made 99 appearances playing for Genk in these three years, including 49 throughout his final season in his homeland as Genk went deep at the UEFA Europa League.

Predisposed to strike at every chance, Castagne is the best match for Gian Piero Gasperini’s attack-minded Atalanta side.

What’s apparent is that Castagne is a danger when he moves ahead. Irrespective of which side he is deployed on, he’s always seeking to overlap.

Offer his propensity to bomb ahead, it comes as no real surprise Castagne averages 2.09 rolls at the opposition’s penalty area per 90. Additionally, he provides you shooter help and 1.25 precise crosses per 90.

Even though the Belgian international has just provided one Serie A assists this year, profligate finishing would be to blame. He’s on-track compared with his xA complete (0.78) for this season. Additionally, it is worth mentioning that he’s never been successful in supplying aids, only eight in his league career, per Fbref. The huge drawback to Castagne is something Spurs have problems with. Castagne is not quite as athletic as the Ivorian however provides a similar hazard.

They empower Castagne, Gosens or even Hans Hatebor to roam at will.

If it comes to active safeguarding, Castagne is not bad. He is strong in the handle, bodily and tireless pace and running mean he does not have any trouble getting back. However, he’s more prone to diving or being exhibited up in one-v-one scenarios.

The biggest problem, however, is being in the ideal place to start with. In Serie A this year, Castagne has won 3.58 of 5.25 defensive duels each 90 and maintained 3.75 interceptions. He’s also lost 8.42 duels with over a third of these incidents happening within his own half.

On this basis, Castagne would possibly be a much better match for PSG. Les Parisiens anticipate to control possession in each game and also his natural athleticism will be placed to its fullest use. While he may not be prepared for a massive move, it is apparent Castagne has the potential to greatly exceed his father’s exploits.
